Resources for anti-racism and
Somatic Abolitionism work
WE ALL HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY IN THE DISMANTLING OF SYSTEMS AND IDEOLOGIES OF OPPRESSION THAT DEVALUE AND DEHUMANIZE OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS OF COLOR. THIS CRITICAL WORK CAN FEEL OVERWHELMING - ESPECIALLY IN MOMENTS LIKE THIS (WHEN THE VEIL THAT THINLY DISGUISES WHAT’S REALLY HAPPENING IS PULLED BACK) AND FOR PEOPLE WHO’VE NEVER REALIZED HOW PERVASIVE RACISM (WHITE BODY SUPREMACY) IS, AND THEREFORE HAVEN’T CONSIDERED THE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION THAT’S REQUIRED TO END IT.
We each play a part. The part you play can look different, but it’s critical for the revolution nevertheless. This is not about politics, it’s about people’s lives. It’s about abolishing the deep and long-lasting violence (in all forms) that’s been inflicted upon bodies of color. Through education, awareness, and embodiment practices to disrupt how and where our discomfort and resistance to difficult conversations and embodied explorations lives - the kinds of conversations we need to be willing to have and the somatic work we need to do - we can tear down this structure, brick by brick.
Here you’ll find a wealth of anti-racism and somatic abolitionism (what’s that? Hang on, we’ll explain) resources.
But if you’re coming here and you’re like “this is overwhelming, where do I start?”
All of this is premised on the idea that we are all impacted by harmful systems (in uneven ways) and none of us are truly free until all of us are truly free - a sentiment echoed many times from many sources.
